Offensive Garbage by crimsonsaphire Offensive Garbage by crimsonsaphire
I am so sick and tired of people finding "everything" offensive.

For example: rape jokes are offensive, stuff about abortion is offensive, saying Merry Christmas is offensive. Not to mention you disagree or say your opinions about gays you are called a homophobe and people also say its offensive. I am so sick of it.

Basically I agree with this--->[link]

I don't care anymore. If you find whatever I say offensive, my response is just going to be get over it and grow a spine. There will always be rape jokes, just like there are black jokes, white jokes, murder jokes, etc... and the funny part is people can say any joke except rape jokes.

There are also people that are going to post that they hate stuff like yaoi or have their opinion on gays and it does not make them a homophobe so stop being a heterophobe!

Also, people can say Merry Christmas and should be allowed to put a Christmas tree wherever they want.

Going on a tangent here but I find it really annoying when people question my sense of humor. I mean, there are topics which I find funny and others not so much and when I don't find something funny, I'm seen as humorless, which I think is an unfair statement.

Sorry for the mini-rant but I needed to get it off my shoulders.

There's politically incorrect, and then there's rude. Like, if you're going to go into uncomfortable territory, you'd better be killing with that joke, or else your 'humor' defense disappears.

Speaking of 'happy holidays', I don't really see the issue. Should go something like this:
Cashier: "Merry Christmas!"
Random Customer: "I'm Jewish."
Cashier: "Oh, my mistake, happy Hannukah!"

Or, we could just say happy holidays because it's inclusive. I recommend this approach.

I agree with the difference between joking and being rude as well. I make sure personally to never cross that boundary.

Jokes about rape are a bit questionable. Personally, I don't think rape's funny, and the kinds of rape jokes that reach for the "Oh, stop being PC!" defense are usually weak jokes on the humor front. Like, the word rape isn't really that great a punchline, and it's just going to offend people, so it's not worth your time. >.>

Plus it's not funny and people get raped a lot so meh why joke about it?

The problem with rape jokes is that if the person was actually raped...well, I wouldn't like any murder jokes if my parents died. Also, there will not always be ______ jokes if humanity is nuked out of existence. Argument invalid.

Yes, because saying that automatically makes you win. First of all, my best friend laughs at rape jokes when SHE was raped, I also laugh as well and the same thing happened to me. As for the nuclear attack one, i'm talking about the fact that as long as there are humans on this planet they will make jokes, I never said that it wouldn't stop even if they are dead.

See, I agree with you through the majority of this, I do hate it when people are so easily offended but there are some people who are just naturally really sensitive and so they can't help it if they aren't as thick skinned as others.

I for one am a MASSIVE hypocrite, I generally don't take offence to most things unless it IS seriously bad or personal. (eg; some dick I knew made a joke about my dead parents.) But when it's me making the jokes, I normally can't care less, I guess you could say I'm fairly saddistic....In a way....I guess...?

But yeah I do agree with you on most of this.

I couldn't agree more and I'm against being offensive for the fun of it online because it leads to trouble. It's not worth it to offended by someone on the internet. Yes, I admit some stuff is very ugly to see and justifiably so when it really is promoting something bad, but there are ways to handle it without losing your temper.

I agree. Even one of my friends finds a lot of stuff offensive and I shut my mouth on it, but its gotten to the point where I just want to give up on being nice. I don't like to fight but I am so sick of people thinking that everything is offensive.

Like I said, I agree. Not everything is offensive like saying 'Merry Christmas' or not liking a form a media. And personally, I find it more offensive to have a problem with someone saying 'Merry Christmas'. Putting it on the same level as a bad word is just wrong, but I wouldn't fight about it online.

Exactly. Saying Merry Christmas shouldn't be offensive. It's been said for years and people never had a problem until the 21st century came along.

I think when it comes to minorities, they get tired themselves of the majority telling them how to feel, or to be less sensitive about such things.

The problem is that this world is too jumpy now and doesn't want to hurt people which makes things worse. In life people are going to get hurt and offended but it shouldn't be a big deal.

Well that's true to a point. But I think as a society there should be a reduction in the pain we cause to others. I mean, people can say what they want, but if someone gets offended by something I say that might be bigoted or offends them, I at least want to hear them out. If someone I know's been raped, I'm not going to be so callous as to keep doing them in their presence and tell them to 'get over it'. Because it's easier for me to just not say it than it is for them to deal with their feelings. Same reason I don't make jokes about ethnicity, because I know some folks hear taunts like that a hundred times a day, and it can wear on a person. I try not to be 101.

I think we have a lack of empathy towards others viewpoints, almost like its a bad thing to be considerate towards what others are going through.

I can understand your point, if someone is hurt by what I say then I apologize and drop it. As for people who were actually raped, I don't put them down but at the same time rape jokes have been around for years and it doesn't seem fair that people are fine with most jokes except rape jokes.

I'm just sick of people who find everything offensiver.

Yeah, again I don't have a catch-all solution to society's ills. But I think just simple-self awareness asking why these jokes are funny in the first place, their origins, and what stereotypes they're drawing on would be a step in the right direction. You can make a joke about any taboo or fucked up subject, but like a loaded gun it's probably better to be cautious and experienced if you're going to go there.

True. Everyone gets so offended by EVERYTHING now. It's almost like they just search for things to be offended by. I can't even say what I really think about something in public anymore without someone getting mad -_____-
